Witold M.Orlowski, Ph.D. (born 1962).
A macroeconomist working mainly on the economics of transition and the
European integration of Central and East European countries. In the period
1993-1997 at the World Bank. One of the founders of NOBE (Independent Center for
Economic Studies). Currently also director of the Research Centre for
Statistical and Economic Studies (CSO and Academy of Sciences) in Warsaw,
advisor to the Chief Negotiator of the EU membership, member of the
Macroeconomic Council of the Minister of Finance.
Education:
University of Lodz (MA, Ph.D.), Harvard University (Fulbright grant), Warsaw
University (post-doctoral dissertation - habilitation)
Professional experience:
University of Lodz (assistant professor 1986-1992), Bureau for European
Integration (advisor 1991-1993), World Bank (macroeconomist, 1993-1997), NOBE
Independent Center for Economic Studies (executive director, from 1997),
Research Center for Economic and Statistical Studies GUS and PAN (director, from
1997), advisor to various international organizations (various periods: World
Bank, EBRD, FAO, European Commission).
Scientific activity:
macroeconomics, applied economics and economic forecasting, national
accounts, European integration, economics of transition.
