NOBE is an independent research center, specialized in applied economic analysis of economies in transition. Current fields of research of NOBE are:
To solve particular problems NOBE creates task forces, gathering Poland's top researchers specialized in a broad range of disciplines related to the problem. Based on the background research and on the up-to-date economic theory, task-oriented applied economic models are designed to allow a dynamic, quantitative analysis. Modern econometric and applied economic techniques are used to construct models and to perform simulation analysis. Computation results supply a basis to formulate conclusions and policy recommendations. The efficiency of NOBE in answering difficult questions about appropriate policies in the economics in transition is based on a well organized cooperation of the specialists of a broad range of disciplines
The Independent Center for Economic Studies NOBE was established in 1992 to meet urgent needs for applied economic studies and quantitative projections of economies in transition. The studies required a broad and innovative interdisciplinary approach, combined with the modern economic knowledge and experience in using applied economic tools. NOBE have been founded by three Polish economists, specialized in various aspects of applied economics: Leszek Zienkowski, former consultant to OECD, UN, World Bank, IMF; former director of the Research Center for Statistical and Economic Studies of GUS (Central Statistical Office) and PAN (Academy of Science). Adam B.Czyzewski, formerly at the World Bank, former advisor to the Government of Poland. Witold M.Orlowski, formerly at the World Bank (Central Europe Department), advisor to the Government of Poland, consultant to the World Bank, EBRD, FAO. NOBE was established in the legal form of the civil law partnership. Currently NOBE has two branches/offices in Lodz and Warszawa.. The Center employs 9 persons (8 researchers - full or part-time, one administrative staff), and has got a network of cooperating researchers (20 persons).

NOBE has also been participating in various national and multinational research networks with research institutions from Germany (Univ.of Karlsruhe), France (CEPII), Spain (FEDEA), Belgium (CEPS, University of Leuven). NOBE is the member of ENEPRI (European Network of Economic Policy Research Institutes). |
